IRVING, Texas – As has been the case at Valley Ranch this week, someone new sat out of practice Thursday, while previously absent players returned to work.

This time it was second-year cornerback B.W. Webb who was missing from action when the Cowboys took the fields. In his place, fellow cornerback Sterling Moore and Rolando McClain returned to practice.

Moore took several days off from practice after he appeared to re-aggravate a groin injury from the team's time in Oxnard, California. McClain was absent Wednesday after Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said he felt lingering effects from cramping.

It's a sore hip flexor limiting Webb, who is considered one of the favorites to start at nickel corner while Orlando Scandrick serves his suspension during the first month of the season. Tyler Patmon, who has since returned, was held out of practice for several days with the same problem.

not participate. Holloman has been absent from the facility this week while he conferred with doctors in San Antonio about the neck injury he suffered during the weekend.

Reserve safety Johnny Thomas, who was signed to offset injuries in the secondary two weeks ago, also missed practice. The top trio of corners – Brandon Carr, Scandrick and Morris Claiborne – all practices for the third consecutive day.

Henry Melton was present at practice but once again worked off to the side with trainers. Garrett said Monday he hoped Melton would be available to practice at the tail end of the week, but this is the final full practice before the Cowboys' trip to play the Dolphins. That makes the defensive tackle's availability against Miami fairly doubtful.
