Rookie WR Coale Almost Out Of Boot

IRVING, Texas – Fifth-round wide receiver Danny Coale played catch in tennis shoes during Tuesday's minicamp practice, a sign of progress from the broken foot that kept him in a walking boot and crutches through last week.

Coale said he is slowly "weaning himself" out of the boot, still wearing it at times during the day. The crutches are gone, and he's testing out a shoe with a special plate inside.

The Cowboys are targeting training camp for Coale's return. He broke the fifth metatarsal in his foot during a conditioning drill on the first day of OTA's in mid-May.

"I'm trying to stay focused on the mental part of it and keep up as much as I can," he said. "I can't wait to get back out there."

Once he does, he'll enter a deep competition for the final three or four receiver spots. Among the candidates are Kevin Ogletree, Andre Holmes, Dwayne Harris, Raymond Radway and rookie free agents Tim Benford and Cole Beasley.
