Ryan Will Move Jenkins Around; Likens Traits To Woodson

IRVING, Texas – Cornerback Mike Jenkins will be on the 46-man game-day roster for the first time since last year's regular season finale. The only uncertainty is how he will be utilized.

Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said Jenkins has the same type of versatile attributes as another All-Pro cornerback he had in Oakland. It's a unique ability that should allow Jenkins to play in multiple spots across the field in Ryan's defense, possibly even at safety.

"When I had Charles Woodson in Oakland, Charles Woodson's an All-Pro corner, but he can also do a lot of other things," Ryan said. "I think Mike Jenkins has those types of traits.

"Right now we have to work him in, to get him in game shape to get him going again. We'll have one heck of a problem, and that's not a problem at all."

Head coach Jason Garrett said he's still finalizing his game-day roster, but all indications are that Jenkins will be active. After sitting out all of training camp and the preseason, Jenkins worked out on a limited basis leading into the opener and practiced fully this week.

"That's always a concern for you as a coach, everyone feels so much further ahead than him," Garrett said. "But he's a veteran player. He's worked very hard to come back from his injury and he looks like he's getting acclimated to playing football again. He's had a few good practices in a row, so hopefully there's a role for him this week."

It will be difficult for the Seahawks to determine beforehand where Jenkins will line up. Ryan is just fine with that.

"With Jenkins, if we are going to bring him in, we're going to bring him in on our terms, which may not necessarily be the terms the other team wants," Ryan said. "We're going to move him around and let him do some things that we think will be really effective."
