IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys set their practice squad Sunday by bringing back eight familiar faces, including quarterback Alex Tanney.

Tanney joins seven others on the practice squad who were cut in the Cowboys' roster trim to 53 players Saturday, including safety Jakar Hamilton, linebacker Cameron Lawrence, guard Ray Dominguez, defensive end Jason Vega, cornerback Micah Pellerin and receivers Danny Coale and Tim Benford.

Tanney attempted twice as many passes as any other Cowboys quarterback in the preseason. He was 40-of-73 for 423 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Benford finished as the team's second leading receiver in the preseason, catching 11 passes for 135 yards, while Lawrence tied for the team-lead in solo tackles with 15. The Cowboys reportedly were interested in bringing back linebacker Brandon Magee, but he was claimed by Cleveland.
