Tracking Down The Many Dallas Defensive Linemen

IRVING, Texas – An attempt to recite the names of every defensive lineman to go through Dallas in 2013 can cause more than a few stumbles.

Injuries attacked that specific spot on defense and a horde of defensive linemen cycled in and out of Dallas, with more than 20 players on the line joining the Cowboys between training camp and the end of the season. Some of them stayed in Dallas, but the majority went on to new locations.

For those wondering where some of the more seldom-used players are currently at, here's a look at the linemen who joined the Cowboys in 2013, saw regular season action and played less than half the season, came in the middle of the year or were cut before season's end.

Marvin Austin – The former second-round pick joined the Cowboys before the Week 8 game against the Lions. That's the only game he saw action in and is now a free agent.

Everette Brown – Another former second round pick, Brown was a useful pickup before the Week 9 tilt against the Vikings. He stayed on the rest of the season, playing in the next seven games and finishing with a sack, two tackles for loss, four quarterback pressures and a forced fumble. He was cut Friday.

David Carter – The defensive tackle wasn't active for the Week 3 Rams game after joining the team but played in the next three games for the Cowboys. He was then cut and is now on Oakland's reserve/futures list.

Landon Cohen – The defensive tackle joined the team in training camp at the same time as George Selvie and both players made a favorable early impression. Cohen played in two games for the Cowboys before getting cut and going on to play in 13 games for the Bears. He's a free agent once again.

Everett Dawkins – At 6-2, 300 pounds, Dawkins' slight frame for a defensive tackle didn't matter as much to Rod Marinelli, who wanted his linemen to get up field. Dawkins joined the Cowboys midway through the year, playing one game against the Saints. He wasn't active the next week and was then cut. Dawkins is now on Tampa Bay's reserve/futures list.

Corvey Irvin– Irvin joined the Cowboys before the Week 12 game against the Giants and played each of the final six games with the team. He was cut Friday and signed immediately with Detroit.

Edgar Jones – The Cowboys traded for the special teams expert before the start of the regular season, and the converted linebacker worked into the defensive end rotation but was only healthy for seven games. He's now a free agent.

Frank Kearse – Kearse joined the Cowboys at the end of the year and played in the final two games, registering three tackles. He's signed through 2015.

Jerome Long – The defensive tackle played in the first three games of the season before getting cut. He's now a free agent. [embedded_ad]

Drake Nevis – The most-used player on this list was active for 11 games in the middle of the year after joining the four weeks into the year. He was cut prior to the Week 16 game against the Redskins and then signed with Jacksonville through 2014.

Caesar Rayford – The Cowboys obtained the former Canadian Football League defensive lineman after an intriguing preseason with the Colts. He played in seven games for the Cowboys before getting released and ending the year on the Dallas practice squad. He's now on the Cowboys reserve/futures list.

Jason Vega (played two games) – Vega bounced from the practice squad to the active roster and played in two games before going back to the practice squad. He was cut after Week 10 and then returned to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL.

Martez Wilson (played two games) – Wilson was primarily a linebacker before the Cowboys tried to use the former 2011 third-round pick on the defensive line. The former Saint and Raider joined the Cowboys in Week 13 and was active for two games the rest of the year. He's signed through 2014.

Jarius Wynn – The veteran joined the Cowboys prior to the Week 7 matchup at Philadelphia and played the next nine games while making two starts. He notched a sack, 12 tackles and six quarterback pressures, and his ability to play inside and out helped the Cowboys' depth. He's now a free agent.
