Witten About To Get 8th TE Coach As Cowboys Prepared To Add 2 Assistants

FRISCO, Texas– As Jason Witten enters his 16th pro season, he's about to have yet another tight ends coach.

That part is certain, Witten will indeed get his eighth different position coach since he first joined the NFL back in 2003.

It's starting to become clearer just who that next coach will be as the Cowboys are expected to hire Doug Nussmeier as the next tight ends coach. Nussmeier has been an offensive coordinator at Alabama, Michigan, Washington and Fresno State and has been on a quarterback coach of the Rams. Most recently, Nussmeier was set to take an offensive coach position at LSU, but changed his mind in the last week to join the Cowboys.

If hired, Nussmeier will become the eighth tight ends coach for Witten, following the likes of Tony Sparano, Paul Pasqualoni, Freddie Kitchens, John Garrett, Wes Philips, Mike Pope and Steve Loney.

And the Cowboys are also set to hire another assistant coach in Doug Colman, who will assist new coordinator Keith O'Quinn on the special teams.

Officially, the Cowboys have yet to announce a single coaching staff move this year, although the retirement of Loney. All of the new hires such as Kris Richard, Sanjay Lal and Paul Alexander will likely be announced when the entire staff is set.
