Everyone's heard the names of Chance Warmack and Jonathan Cooper at guard, but here's a look at some guards that aren't getting as much publicity.
*·        Larry Warford     Kentucky                          *
Plays right guard for the WildcatsâŠmassive manâŠplays with power at pointâŠcan get pushâŠwill wall offâŠbalance and recoveryâŠdoesn't get knocked backâŠgets out on the screenâŠsustain and initial pop goodâŠhard guy to moveâŠgood base adjusted to Floyd of Florida wellâŠadjust on twistâŠquick on the reachâŠcut off on Jenkins of Georgia âŠmisses on pull and trapâŠpulls to contact on the edgeâŠcan fight power with powerâŠaware to help across the pocketâŠhas some power in his punchâŠable to come off his blockâŠcan get down field to blockâŠused on pull quite a bitâŠnice job of getting out on the sweepâŠgood with read blockâŠhas some snap to his blocksâŠcan pass off stuntsâŠplayed well against both Floyd of Florida and Richardson of MissouriâŠ.like Warmack of Alabama might be overall better suited for a team that runs a power scheme but does show the ability to moveâŠ.like how productive he was in big game against outstanding talent, showed well in the Senior Bowl as wellâŠ.one of my favorite players from the very first day that I was studying tape.
*·        Kyle Long             Oregon              *
Plays left guard but will also line up at right tackleâŠ.very light on his feetâŠcan pull around the corner with easeâŠcan adjust on the move without any problemsâŠdoesn't always have the power to sustain his blocksâŠbattles to stay in front of his manâŠusually not slow to second level but played a step slow against USCâŠis a position blockerâŠcan make the reach blockâŠable to mirror man on pass setâŠattacks his man on the draw âŠable to adjust on the move when he pullsâŠplays in a read option offense with his hand downâŠplays with bent kneesâŠdid adjust to the twist wellâŠkeeps feet moving on the down block in red zoneâŠwill help across the pocket when uncoveredâŠgets more push with effort than strengthâŠcan run with the defender down the LOSâŠtries to finish his blocksâŠathlete to handle the spin moveâŠ.like that he can play both the guard and the tackle spotâŠwould be a very nice fit for a team that runs a zone scheme which would allow him to use this abilityâŠ.
*·        Dallas Thomas    Tennessee         *
Starts at left guardâŠ.mobileâŠcan get to the second levelâŠsquare built playerâŠaware for twistsâŠcan down blockâŠneeds to do a better job of working on double team blockâŠknows how to pass twist stuntâŠwill catch blocks at timesâŠneeds better sustainâŠnice base and slide on pass setâŠcan pullâŠshows some strengthâŠgets out on screensâŠsome initial quicknessâŠadjust to the spin moveâŠgets away from the lineâŠcan help across the pocketâŠbase got a little wide against Alabama when he had to adjustâŠwill catch and not punchâŠtaken out of the lineup during the Alabama gameâŠplayed some left tackleâŠgives up edge pressure at times which is surprising because of the type of athlete that he is âŠquick to adjust insideâŠmade tough cut off blockâŠcan get around the corner on the pullâŠthere were times where he was out of the game for long stretches only to come back inâŠ.didn't like how he was taken out of the game and replacedâŠ.sure the new Cowboys wide receiver coach Derek Dooley will be able to explain whyâŠ.like his athletic abilityâŠ
·        Brian Winters     Kent State
Played left tackle during the season but left guard in the Senior BowlâŠis quick off the snapâŠkeeps his feet movingâŠnice set and punchâŠcan get away from lineâŠcan adjust on pulls to hit target nice job with his [embedded_ad] sustainâŠcan mirror and slideâŠplays on his feetâŠpulls to finishâŠworks to get his hands insideâŠcan adjust on the second levelâŠhard blocker to get rid ofâŠmauls peopleâŠdid a nice job against Jenkins of GeorgiaâŠworks to maintain his positionâŠgets a little over extended but stays on his feet and in balanceâŠbig square bodyâŠgets out on the screenâŠmoves wellâŠcan sit down on his manâŠlittle bit of a wide base on his setâŠreally like his foot work and popâŠplays with a great deal of toughnessâŠ.
*·        Garrett Gilkey     Chadron State  *
Plays left tackle but projected to play guardâŠlittle slow off the snapâŠstruggles to adjust on the twistâŠkeeps his hands lowâŠpush-shove on the second levelâŠover extended when he gets wideâŠbetter when he faces rushers down the middleâŠneeds to control with his hands betterâŠhinge blocker on pass proâŠtries to finish his blockâŠdoesn't always adjust on the moveâŠneeds to stay on his feet on the second levelâŠwill give up the inside moveâŠcan get movement off the ballâŠbetter adjust inside against Southern ColoradoâŠgets his head across on the reachâŠgets into blocksâŠgets narrow based at timesâŠwill lungeâŠsome initial quickness against HighlandsâŠhas really good size but really a development type of playerâŠgoing to take some time to get him rightâŠ.don't see him playing right awayâŠ.would be the ninth or tenth guy on an offensive line.
