ARLINGTON, Texas — For the sixth consecutive season, Dak Prescott will not be risked to preseason play, and the Dallas Cowboys will instead give the start in their August finale against the Atlanta Falcons to Joe Milton, with Will Grier on the usual standby.
The decision is largely based upon head coach Brian Schottenheimer wanting "to know more" about Milton, having all the data he needs on Grier, and this applies an even brighter spotlight to the young quarterback when considering he's struggled in both of his previous preseason outings for the Cowboys.
But will things finally click for him against the Falcons?
WHEN AND WHERE:
Date: Friday, August 22
Time: 7 pm CT
Location: AT&T Stadium (Arlington, Texas)
Milton's struggles weren't the only ones that stand out to this point, generally speaking, but there were also positives on both sides of the ball the Cowboys are hoping to build upon this coming Friday — e.g., takeaways (a pick-six from Andrew Booth being one of them) and exceptional linebacker play.
Tyler Booker was also a huge green flag in his preseason debut last week and, should he be tasked with taking more snaps on Friday, the world will get a chance to see if the rookie first-round pick can string together great outings after having not allowed a single quarterback pressure on Milton versus the Ravens.
It's the last chance to see who deserves to make the Cowboys' 53-man roster ahead of final cutdowns next week, and you won't want to miss it.
