FRISCO, Texas — The mission for the Dallas Cowboys is simple heading into Week 2: defeat the New York Giants to not only avoid two division losses in September, but to also avoid the dreaded 0-2 start to the year after falling just short against the Eagles in Philadelphia the week prior.
It would also help if the Cowboys got the win in their home opener at AT&T Stadium, a place where they struggled mightily to land a win in 2024 — finishing with a league-worst record of 2-7 at home.
Nothing would begin the course correction better to begin the Brian Schottenheimer era than to take the Giants out back and beat them like a dusty rug, but that could be easier said than done when looking at their defensive line's ability to get after the opposing passer.
WHEN AND WHERE:
Date: Sunday, Sept. 14
Time: Noon CT
Location: AT&T Stadium (Arlington, Texas)
That means the onus is once again on the new-look offensive line in Dallas to keep All-Pro quarterback Dak Prescott upright and clean, opening run lanes as well, two things they did exceptionally well against the defending champs.
It also bears mentioning Prescott is trying to keep an unreal streak alive: having not lost to the Giants since his rookie season in 2016, when they were the only team to beat him twice.
The defense will look to ride a strong second half against the Eagles into trying to shut down the Giants offensive attack, something that struggled itself in New York's loss to the Washington Commanders, and defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus has the benefit of inside information on Russell Wilson, considering Schottenheimer was once the quarterback's offensive coordinator in Seattle.
That should make things very, very interesting on Sunday afternoon, amongst a list of things you'd do well to keep your eyes peeled for.
