One of the best cornerbacks of his era officially retired from the NFL on Thursday. Stephon Gilmore, a 13-year veteran who spent one year with the Cowboys in 2023, has decided to call it quits.

A five-time Pro Bowler who was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 as a member or the Patriots, played for six different teams. He was not in the league in 2025 but finally decided to retire now, ending his career as one of the top cover corners in recent history.

Gilmore was traded to the Cowboys in 2023 from the Colts in a pre-draft move. He started all 17 games for a 12-5 team but a shoulder injury he sustained late in the season limited his effectiveness in the playoff-loss to the Packers. That proved to be his last game in Dallas. Gilmore went to the Vikings in 2024 and also had one-year stints with the Colts and Panthers. But he spent his first five years in Buffalo and then four more with the Patriots, including a Super Bowl winning season in 2018.

Gilmore ends his career with 32 interceptions, including two with the Cowboys in 2023.
