FRISCO, Texas – The Cowboys fell to 2-5 on the road this season in a 44-30 loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday night.
Despite gaining over 400 yards of offense for the third straight game this season, ultimately Dallas couldn't find a way to play the brand of complimentary football they had in their previous three games, all wins.
Now, the Cowboys sit at 6-6-1 with four games remaining and a lot needing to happen if they want to reach the postseason.

Only four Cowboys running backs have ever rushed for 1,000 yards in their first season with the team, only two of them were veterans. Javonte Williams became the fourth player to accomplish that feat as he now has 1,022 rushing yards with still four games to play. The other three backs are Tony Dorsett, Darren McFadden and Ezekiel Elliott.

If you want to see how big of a drop-off George Pickens had Thursday night, just check out his Yards/Per Target, which was just 4.1, the lowest of any game he's played this year. Pickens entered the game with a career-best 10.9 yards per target. But against the Lions, he totaled just 37 yards on nine targets.

On their 25 receptions, Detroit's wide receivers averaged 6.48 yards after the catch. Two of their three leading receivers, Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown, averaged over 9 yards after catch per reception. On Dallas' end, allowing 13 missed tackles and 101 yards after those missed tackles.

While CeeDee Lamb did exit early with a concussion, he was having quite the first half, totaling a season-high 121 receiving yards. That was Lamb's 26th career 100-yard game. He moved past Tony Hill into second place all-time with 100-yard games, now only trailing Michael Irvin (47 games).

The Cowboys hit the 30-point mark again for the seventh time this year. Out of 13 games, played the Cowboys have scored at least 30 in more than half of the games. However, the Cowboys were 5-0-1 in those previous six games. Thursday marked the first loss of the season in which the Cowboys hit 30 points.

The Lions had two different players eclipse 100 kickoff return yards against the Cowboys, averaging 32.6 yards per return. Jacob Saylors had 141 yards and Tom Kennedy added 120, each providing a huge spark for the Lions, whose average starting field position was their own 41 yard line.

Most Cowboys fans remember the "Chaz Green" game back in 2017 when the young left tackle had a rough game trying to block Dak's blindside in Atlanta. The Falcons, led by Adrian Clayborn's six sacks, dropped Dak for a total of 50 yards lost in sacks. Well, that was Dak's most sack yardage in one game, but it's now tied after the Lions dropped Dak five times for 50 yards lost as well.

Lions QB Jared Goff and the Lions' offense utilized the quick passing game at a high level against the Cowboys' defense. On quick passes, Goff completed 17 of his 21 pass attempts for 167 yards and a touchdown. His 61.8% quick pass rate is the highest he's had in a game since joining the Lions in 2021.

Brandon Aubrey's 63-yard field goal is the third-longest of his career and also extended his NFL record with six field goals of 60 yards or more in his career. Aubrey became the first kicker in NFL history to make three field goals of 55 yards or more, but none bigger than the 63-yarder in the third quarter.

That's a lot of receiving yards for a guy who was supposed to miss the game. But Amon-Ra St. Brown, whose ankle injury kept him out of practice all week and had the Lions contemplating putting him on the IR list, ended up playing and torching the Cowboys with six catches. He was actually second on the team in yards, behind Jameson Williams and his 96 yards.
