Updates: LB poached by Colts, Campbell returns

Sept. 30

12:45 p.m. -- Parris Campbell is returning to sign with the Cowboys for a second time in 2025.

The veteran wide receiver will be added to the team's practice squad ahead of the Week 5 preparation to take on the New York Jets, his first stint with the team having come this summer, before going down with injury in training camp.

He was then waived with an injury settlement, but has since been medically cleared to return.

Campbell takes the seat vacated by linebacker Buddy Johnson, who was signed away from the Cowboys' practice squad by the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday.

-------------

10:00 a.m. -- Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue has been a healthy inactive for Dallas' first four games of the season, with Dallas loading up a little bit more on the defensive side of the ball with their game day roster given some injuries. There's been a lot of conversation surrounding when Blue could be finally made active, and Brian Schottenheimer says that Blue is "very close" to getting there.

"I challenged him a few weeks ago on being consistent. He's done that," Schottenheimer said. "He's becoming one of our best offensive practice squad players. He gives the defense an incredible look with his speed and playmaking ability, so very close."

Veteran running back Miles Sanders, who has gotten the next most carries behind Javonte Williams for the Cowboys this season, left Sunday's game early with an ankle injury. Schottenheimer said that it was minor and Sanders will have a chance to play on Sunday against the Jets. Even if he does, could the Cowboys make Blue active just in case?

-------------

Sept. 29

5:00 p.m. -- On Monday, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer gave several injury updates, including that as it stands, the team does not play to place WR CeeDee Lamb or OL Tyler Booker, who both have a high ankle sprain, on injured reserve. He added that both are "trending in the right direction," but that the team reserves the right to change their minds.

In Sunday's tie against Green Bay, OT Tyler Guyton went out with a concussion and is in the league's protocol, but Schottenheimer said he'll have a chance to play next week against the Jets. Safety Malik Hooker (toe) has an injury that could sideline him a couple of weeks, meaning that the Cowboys will likely see a lot of Juanyeh Thomas in his place at safety in the mean time. Lastly, RB Miles Sanders (ankle) had most tests come back clean and is trending towards being available to play against the Jets.

As the Cowboys move past the fourth week of the season, they can now begin to open the 21-day practice windows for players that started the season on injured reserve and the PUP & NFI lists. That includes players like CB Shavon Revel, RB Phil Mafah, WR Jonathan Mingo and CB Caelen Carson among others. Schottenheimer said the team will have conversations tonight and into tomorrow on whose windows could be opened this week.

-------------

9:22 a.m. — Over anything else, Dak Prescott would've liked to get the win over the Packers in Micah's return to AT&T Stadium and to even the record at 2-2.

So a tie was still rather disappointing for the Cowboys quarterback, but in his 10th season, it's no surprise that he keeps piling on the records. On Sunday, Dak passed Troy Aikman (2,898) for most completions in franchise history. Dak had 31 completions on 40 attempts, giving him 2,901 now for his career.

He also extended his franchise record with 22 games with a rushing and passing touchdown, the most by any Cowboys quarterback.

When asked about the milestones, Dak toed the line on being respectful to the legends before him but also knowing the most important goal of being a quarterback for the Cowboys.

"It's awesome. It's something I never take for granted," Dak said about records. "It's not something that I'm patting myself on the back for, but it's something that I understand the history before me. I understand the players who have come before me and it's an honor, but at the end of the day I want to win games and I want to chase Roger (Staubach) and Troy (Aikman) and the accomplishments they have.

-------------

9:04 a.m. — For the first time since catching three TDs in the playoff loss to the Packers, Jake Ferguson found the end zone. And of course, it's against the Packers at AT&T Stadium.

But for a guy who didn't catch a single touchdown in 2024 and not one in the first three games this year, Ferguson was glad to be back in the end zone yet again, catching a third-quarter score Sunday night.

However, Ferguson's biggest accomplishment has been in the overall receptions. He now has 34 this year, the most in NFL history by a tight end in the first four games. It's also the second-most by any Cowboys player after four games behind Amari Cooper, who had 37 in 2020.

-------------

Sept. 28

11:59 p.m. — There's a chance the Cowboys could be down another starting offensive lineman when they travel to take on the New York Jets in Week 5.

Tyler Guyton, who was having an impressive outing against the Green Bay Packers and in helping to keep all-world pass rusher Micah Parsons at bay for the large majority of the eventual tie, was pulled from the game late to be evaluated for a possible concussion.

It was deemed the former first-round pick did indeed suffer one and, as such, will have to clear the league's concussion protocol before returning to the field.

As it stands, the Cowboys are already without starting center Cooper Beebe and starting right guard Tyler Booker, both sidelined for the next several weeks with injury. In his absence, it was Nate Thomas getting the nod at left tackle for Dallas' offense.

-------------

9:32 p.m. - Veteran safety Malik Hooker left the game in the second quarter with a toe injury and was later ruled out for the rest of the game.

Hooker nearly had an interception on a deep throw by Packers quarterback Jordan Love, but as the safety tried to make a move towards the overthrown ball, he started limping and had to hop off the field.

He was replaced by Juanyeh Thomas, who made one of the key plays of the game with a blocked extra point that resulted in a two-point conversion.

-------------

5:50 p.m. -- Following two full weeks of ramp-up, Jadeveon Clowney will officially make his debut for the Cowboys when they take the field against the Green Bay Packers in Week 4.

The former first-overall pick will be looked upon to inject some potency into an inconsistent pass rush, and particularly against a dual threat quarterback in Jordan Love for a Packers' offense that can often be explosive — also making it key to note that All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland is officially returned from his injury for Sunday Night Football.

The inactives list for the Cowboys includes two heavy hitters however, in CeeDee Lamb and Tyler Booker, along with Damone Clark, Jaydon Blue, Ajani Corneius and Jay Toia; and Clark being inactive makes room for the rookie debut of Shemar James at linebacker.

Lamb and Booker are both sidelined due to injury, but neither have been moved to injured reserve by the Cowboys at this point.

-------------

Sept. 27

1:15 p.m. -- After elevating a pair of cornerbacks the last two weeks on game day, the Cowboys have flipped to the offensive side of the ball for Week 4's Sunday night game against the Packers.

Dallas has elevated WR Jalen Cropper to the game day roster, which will mark his first appearance for the Cowboys this season in a regular season game.

After needing depth at cornerbacks the last few weeks with Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland battling injuries, it's CeeDee Lamb's injury that makes the Cowboys elevate a receiver for some extra depth.

-------------

Sept. 26

3:30 p.m. -- Both WR CeeDee Lamb and OL Tyler Booker left the Cowboys' Week 3 loss in Chicago with high ankle sprains, although the Cowboys have said Lamb's is on the less severe side because of the nature of the wide receiver position versus on the offensive line.

That said, the Cowboys will use the weekend to see how both Lamb and Booker are doing in their respective walking boots, and then make a decision next week on whether or not to place them on injured reserve.

"We'll make that final decision when we get them out of the boot next week and see kind of what we think the prognosis is, short end or long end of how long we think it'll take for them to get back." Cowboys COO/co-owner Stephen Jones said on 105.3 The Fan.

-------------

3:00 p.m. -- The Cowboys will finally be back and healthy at cornerback against the Packers on Sunday night, with both Trevon Diggs (knee) and DaRon Bland (foot) recording two days of full practice participation and not having an injury designation on Dallas' injury report.

CeeDee Lamb (ankle) and Tyler Booker (ankle) were both officially ruled out. They were the two players that the Cowboys deemed as out, as CB Trikweze Bridges (knee) has also been cleared to go.

The Packers could be without two starting offensive linemen on Sunday night, with right tackle Zach Tom (oblique) offically ruled out and left guard Aaron Banks (groin) listed as doubtful. All three of Micah Parsons, Josh Jacobs and Tucker Kraft had no injury designations and are ready to play on Sunday night.

-------------

11:45 a.m. -- Micah Parsons isn't the only headline talent playing against their former team when the Cowboys host the Packers for Sunday Night Football, quiet as it's kept, because Kenny Clark is doing the exact same.

Adding to the levels of motivation for him to try and dominate Green Bay will be the fact the three-tiime Pro Bowl defensive tackle has been named Captain of the Week by head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

Clark spoke earlier this week about his thoughts on facing the team that drafted and developed him, also making it clear he's locked in and it's all business and nothing personal.

"When you've been somewhere for nine years, it's hard to not have those emotions, but it's another game," Clark said. "It's another game ,at the end of the day. I'm definitely going to be amped up. I'm gonna be ready to go, and prepare to do everything I gotta do in order to help my team win but, at the end of the day, yeah, we're trying to get a win."

-------------

Sept. 25

4:00 p.m. -- The Cowboys got some much needed good news at cornerback on Thursday, as both DaRon Bland (foot) and Trevon Diggs (knee) were upgraded to full participants in practice.

Bland has missed the last two games for the Cowboys with a foot injury opposite the one that kept him out a good bit of the 2024 season, but now appears to be on track to return for Sunday night's game against Green Bay. As does Diggs, who didn't participate in practice on Wednesday but did everything today.

Already down two starting offesnive lineman and CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys need all the health they can get defensively especially given their struggles through the air the last two weeks. When Diggs and Bland were on the field together in Week 1, the Cowboys gave up just 144 yards through the air.

Dallas Cowboys
Table - Injury report
Player Injury Game status

2:00 p.m. -- After the Houston Texans signed CB Zion Childress to thier active roster off the Cowboys' practice squad, Dallas filled his spot on the practice squad with CB Corey Ballentine.

Ballentine, 29, was a sixth-round pick out of Washburn in the 2019 NFL Draft, where he was picked by the New York Giants. Since then, Ballentine has played for the Giants, Jets, Lions, Packers and most recently the Patriots.

In 70 career games, Ballentine has 101 tackles, nine pass breakups and an interception under his belt. Now he gives the Cowboys another depth piece in the secondary after a few weeks of players like DaRon Bland and Trevon Diggs battling injuries.

-------------

Sept. 24

3:50 p.m. -- Cowboys CB DaRon Bland (foot) was back at practice on Wednesday in a limited capacity, as he continues to trend towards returning to play on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

Fellow CB Trikweze Bridges was the only other player on the injury report for Dallas listed as limited. Tyler Booker (ankle), Trevon Diggs (knee) and CeeDee Lamb (ankle) were all non-participants in practice with Lamb and Booker expected to miss some games.

For the Packers, Micah Parsons (back) was limited in his first practice of the week. SO were other starters Tucker Kraft (knee/elbow) and Josh Jacobs (ankle).

-------------

10:00 a.m. -- Cowboys undrafted rookie free agent CB Zion Childress was signed to the Houston Texans 53-man roster off Dallas' practice squad on Wednesday.

Childress was elevated twice in as many weeks to the Cowboys' game day roster in DaRon Bland's absence, and mostly played on special teams while being the back up to Reddy Stewart at the slot corner position.

Now, Childress returns to his home town of Houston, where he played high school football at New Caney. The Texans were in need of help in the secondary after releasing safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

-------------

Sept. 23

9:02 a.m. - For the second straight day, the news is encouraging on DaRon Bland, who has missed the last two games with a foot injury.

On Tuesday, owner/GM Jerry Jones told 105.3 "The Fan" that signs are pointing up on Bland's return this week vs. Green Bay.

"I don't want to get out over our skis here. It's a good possibility we'll have him (against the Packers)."

That is coming off Brian Schottenheimer's press conference late Monday afternoon when he said Bland is "trending to play."

The Cowboys undoubtedly need Bland's coverage skills back in the lineup. The Cowboys rank 31st in the NFL in pass defense, allowing 288 yards per game in passing yards alone.

In the one game Bland played this year, the Cowboys allowed just 144 yards against the Eagles. Since his absence, the Giants passed for 422 yards and the Bears had 298.

-------------

Sept. 22

5:00 p.m. -- After Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer announced that WR CeeDee Lamb would "miss some time" with a high ankle sprain on Monday, he also gave some positive updates on two other Cowboys players that were injured in Dallas' Week 3 loss on Sunday.

Defensive tackle Kenny Clark (ankle) and CB Trevon Diggs (shoulder), who briefly missed some time against the Bears in the second half, should be good to go this week.

"I think those guys, I think they're okay," Schottenheimer said. "We're still running some tests on some guys, but I think both of those guys came out pretty clean."

There's also growing optimism that CB DaRon Bland, who has missed the last two games with a foot injury, could play Sunday against the Packers.

"I think he's doing good, I think he's trending to play." Schottenheimer said of Bland.

-------------

12:30 p.m. — The verdict is still out regarding the status of CeeDee Lamb for the Week 4 bout against the Green Bay Packers, the All-Pro wideout suffering a high ankle sprain in the loss to the Chicago Bears.

After the game, Lamb said he "absolutely" feels he can play in a few days, but the Cowboys' front office and medical staff are going to take necessary measures.

"I think we've gotta evaluate the full thing — see how he's moving when he goes," said executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones to 105.3 The Fan on Monday. "He's got a high ankle sprain, and every one of those is different. We'd love to have him back for Green Bay, but, at the same time, we've gotta understand the injury is what it is and it'll play out."

Trevon Diggs also suffered injury in Chicago, to his shoulder, but returned to the game and Jones stated "everything checks out" for the All-Pro cornerback.

-------------

Sept. 21

7:32 p.m. - The Bears made it clear they were going to let Jake Ferguson be the star of the Cowboys' offense.

To their credit, the plan worked as they took away a lot of deep balls and kept the middle open for Ferguson to shine underneath. The tight end had a career high 13 catches on 14 targets. But he had just 82 yards, averaging 6.3 a reception.

After the game, Dak Prescott said getting the ball so often to Ferguson was a product of the Bears' coverage.

It was the most catches by a Cowboys tight end since Jason Witten set the single-game record with 18 catches in 2012.

Ferguson also has the most catches by any Cowboys player after the first three games of the season with 27.

-------------

7:17 p.m. -- In his third game with the Cowboys, Javonte Williams finished with 10 carries for 76 yards, averaging 7.6 yards per carry in a 31-14 loss to the Chicago Bears.

The 7.6 yards per carry mark is the highest average by a Cowboys back with at least 10 carries since Tony Pollard had 9.36 yards per carry in 2022 against the Bears.

The lone knock on the day for Williams was a key fumble on Dallas' opening drive, which had gotten off to a promising start but ended with Williams getting the ball stripped away from behind by Tyrique Stevenson.

-------------

6:32 p.m. - While Sunday didn't have the dramatic finish from a week ago, Brandon Aubrey continues to his job at the highest level.

With two more field goals, including a 53-yarder, Aubrey is now 8-of-8 on field goals for the season.

HIs 53-yard kick in the first quarter gives him 28 for his career, moving him into first place in Cowboys history all-time with 50+ yard field goals, passing Dan Bailey, who played in Dallas from 2011-17.

-------------

1:55 p.m. -- Jadeveon Clowney will have to wait at least one more week before seeing his debut for the Cowboys materialize, but not Mazi Smith.

Clowney, signed Monday, stated he's ready to play but the Cowboys want to ramp him up a bit more. Smith, who was inactive the first two games under Matt Eberflus, will make his 2025 debut for the defensive coordinator.

Others joining Clowney on the list of inactives are Jaydon Blue, Shemar James, Ajani Cornelius, Trevor Keegan, Jay Toia and DaRon Bland.

Bland continues his rehab, but the good news the Cowboys will not be without Trevon Diggs -- cleared to go after being listed as questionable on Saturday.

-------------

Sept. 20

2:30 p.m. -- Trevon Diggs was absent from the first practice of the week heading into the matchup against the Bears due to illness.

The All-Pro cornerback returned to full participation both Thursday and Friday, and finished the latter with no game designation.

That changed after practice on Saturday, however, with the Cowboys adding Diggs to the injury report with a knee issue -- listing him as questionable.

Already without DaRon Bland, the Cowboys have elevated two cornerbacks from the practice squad, namely Robert Rochell and Zion Childress.

-------------

Sept. 19

4:21 p.m. - While the veteran defensive end sounded confident in his abilities to perform if he gets to play Sunday in Chicago, Jadeveon Clowney might have to wait a week before making his Cowboys debut.

Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones said Friday on 105.3 "The Fan" the decision to play Clowney will come down to Sunday morning, with a good chance he doesn't play.

"Right now it's gonna be a game-time decision," Stephen said Friday afternoon. "We're seeing how he does. But after practice and talking about it, it's probably a final game-time decision, but leaning towards him probably not playing this week."

-------------

3:09 p.m. For the second straight week, cornerback DaRon Bland will not play against the Bears. The Cowboys have officially ruled him out for Sunday's game - the only player to miss the game for injury reasons.

Bland was held out of practice all week with a foot injury he suffered in practice last week, a few days before the Week 2 game with the Giants.

Without Bland, the Cowboys' secondary struggled mightily against the Giants, who had 450 passing yards with several deep passes down the field.

Bland was a big part of the Cowboys' defense in Week 1 against the Eagles, who saw A.J. Brown and DaVonta Smith combine for just four catches for 24 yards.

However, since the Cowboys chose not to place Bland on the four-week IR, that should at least suggest he has a shot to come back sooner, as early as next week against the Packers.

-------------

2:30 p.m. -- Jadeveon Clowney officially signed on to join the Cowboys on Monday, allowing plenty of time for him to participate in each practice heading into the coming matchup against the Chicago Bears.

Though it has yet to be decided, at least publicly, if he'll make his debut for Dallas in Week 3, the former first-overall pick has made it clear this week he's in football shape and ready to go.

On Friday, he reiterated just how ready he is to take the field in the Windy City.

"Whatever they have planned, I'm just looking forward to the opportunity to get out therel," Clowney said. "Man, I've done this a few times."

-------------

11:30 a.m. -- There's a change in how the Dallas Cowboys operate regarding assigning captains for the 2025 season under Brian Schottenheimer.

This season, the team assigned permanent captain status to several players, e.g., Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Osa Odighizuwa, but also allow for a rotational captain to be named each week.

Heading into the Week 3 bout against the Chicago Bears, that rotational captain status was earned by and awarded to running back Javonte Williams, and few could argue with why that's the case.

Williams leads the league in several rushing categories through the first two games, including touchdowns, and headlines a top-3 rushing attack in Dallas — proving he's operating in prime form in his first stretch with the Cowboys.

-------------

Sept. 18

3:55 p.m. -- After being limited on Wednesday, Cowboys WR KaVontae Turpin (neck) was a full participant in Thursday's practice and is expecting to play on Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

"I'm good, I'm feeling good, the plan is go in there and play," Turpin said. "That's what me and Schotty talked about, what the trainers talked about... at this point, I'm playing."

As for the remainder of the Dallas injury report, CB Trevon Diggs returned to practice as a full participant after missing Wednesday's walkthrough with an illness. As expected, CB DaRon Bland (foot) did not participate again. Starting LT Tyler Guyton (shoulder) was also back practicing at a full capacity.

Things mostly stayed the same for the Bears, with starting DT Grady Jarrett (knee) being upgraded to limited. Chicago still may be without many of their defensive starters at key positions with LB T.J. Edwards and CB Kyler Gordon both not participating in back-to-back practices.

-------------

Sept. 17

3:00 p.m. -- On the initial Cowboys injury report ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears, WR KaVontae Turpin (neck) was listed as a limited participant. Turpin suffered the neck injury against the Giants last Sunday, and was seen with a neck brace on following the game. There was no such brace on him on Wednesday.

As expected, CB DaRon Bland (foot) did not practice. He wasn't the only defensive back that didn't either, as Trevon Diggs was not a participant with an illness. OT Tyler Guyton (shoulder) was limited in the walkthrough practice, with Brian Schottenheimer wanted to give his players a bit more rest after playing an overtime game against New York last week.

For Chicago, their injury report is much longer with a lot of defensive contributors popping up. CB Jaylon Johnson (groin), DL Grady Jarrett (knee), LB T.J. Edwards (hamstring) and DB Kyler Gordon (hamstring) all did not practice on Wednesday. Starting RB D'Andre Swift (quad) was a limited participant.

-------------

8:15 a.m. -- With Cooper Beebe set to be sidelined with an injury for 6-8 weeks, the Cowboys added some depth at the center position by signing Wesley French to the practice squad.

French, 28, went undrafted in 2022 out of Western Michigan and spent a year with now Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams his rookie season while Adams was tight ends coach.

Brian Schottenheimer has said in the past that he likes having depth in offensive linemen that can work at center, which is why they've added French, Trevor Keegan and had T.J. Bass take snaps at center at training camp. On the unofficial depth chart that the team released on Tuesday, Keegan is listed as the backup center behind Brock Hoffman, who will start in Beebe's place.

-------------

Sept. 16

9:31 a.m. - When asked about ways to help the secondary, Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones said on 105.3 "The Fan" that he expects there to be "help on the way."

And it's not from the outside, but more about DaRon Bland coming back from an ankle injury and also, rookie Shavon Revel could come back after Week 4.

"He's our outstanding young corner and frankly, one of the best young corners that I've seen on us put on the roster. I think he's on the way," Jones said. "Right now, he's aligned to be there after the fourth game."

Revel is currently on NFI (Non-Football Injury) as he rehabs from a torn ACL injury he suffered last September in college. He is eligible to play on Oct. 5 against the Jets.

-------------

Sept. 15

5 p.m. – Unable to avoid a sobering injury to Cooper Beebe, who was moved to injured reserve on Monday with an ankle injury, there's some good news regarding KaVonte Turpin.

The speedy All-Pro returner and wide receiver did exit the eventual win against the Giants, after contributing a touchdown and key plays throughout the game, with a neck injury that wouldn't allow him to return, but test results were negative.

"It sounds like most of the test have come back clear," said head coach Brian Schottenheimer. "Hopefully we'll have a chance to have him this week."

Any sort of neck injury can be a scary ordeal, but the Cowboys have to be elated to know Turpin avoided a major one.

-------------

4:13 p.m. - As expected, starting center Cooper Beebe will be out at least four weeks after the Cowboys placed him on injured reserve Monday.

Beebe suffered the high-ankle sprain injury late in Sunday's game with the Giants, forcing Brock Hoffman into the lineup for that last few drives of regulation and overtime.

Hoffman is expected to take over as the starter but the Cowboys also have T.J. Bass, who has experience at guard and center.

Beebe played in 16 of 17 games last year as the starting center. Hoffman has nine career starts, including seven last year at guard.

Beebe's move to IR actually opened a roster spot for the Cowboys to add Jadeveon Clowney.

-------------

Sept. 14

5:23 p.m. – It's one thing to say Dak has owned the Giants, it's another to say it's arguably the most dominant any quarterback in NFL history has ever been over one team.
with his 14th straight win against the Giants, Dak Prescott now has the second-longest streak by a QB against one team. Prescott passed Tom Brady, who had won 13 straight over the Bills, but now trails only Miami's Bob Griese, who won 17 straight games over Buffalo from 1968-79.

It wasn't the only milestone for Dak, who passed Tony Romo (2,829) for second in completions in franchise history. He currently has 2,839 and trails only Troy Aikman, who has 2,898, only 60 away from the all-time record.

-------------

5:08 p.m. - The Cowboys' are getting solid production from their starting running back. Williams had 97 rushing yards and a touchdown - his third of the season. The 30-yard run in the third quarter was the longest in Williams' career.

He also accounted for 130 all-purpose yards, the second-most of his career as he caught six passes, mostly in the second half.

Williams joined Herschel Walker (1986) and Alvin Blount (1987) to have three rushing touchdowns in their first two games with the Cowboys.

-------------

5:02 p.m. - For all of the great passes Seattle's Russell Wilson threw on Sunday, his final one was a mistake - and picked off by Donovan Wilson, who was basically playing centerfield.

Wilson, interception, the first of the season for the Cowboys, gave the ball back to Dallas for the game-winning field goal.

Wilson, who was the captain for overtime opposite of Russell Wilson, became the first Cowboys player in 13 years to pick off a pass in overtime. Brandon Carr had a pick that led to a win over the Steelers in 2012.

-------------

4:49 p.m. - Before leaving the game with a neck injury, KaVontae Turpin had 155 all-purpose yards and a touchdown.

But suffering a neck injury that required kept him the rest of the game, Turpin was missed not only on offense but special teams.

Turpin had 100 kickoff return yards, 47 receiving yards, six rushing yards and two punt return yards. When he went out with an injury, Jalen Tolbert took more offensive reps and handled the majority of the return game opportunities.

After the game, Turpin said his X-ray results came back negative.

-------------

10:30 a.m. -- Mazi Smith continues to try and work his way onto the field for defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

The former first-round pick has been listed as inactive for the second consecutive week to begin the 2025 season, joining rookie running back Jaydon Blue on the list.

DaRon Bland headlines the bunch due to injury, and others named inactive include Shemar James, Ajani Cornelius, Hakeem Adeniji and Trevor Keegan.

In the absence of Bland, both Zion Childress and Robert Rochelle were elevated from the practice squad.

-------------

Sept. 13

12:10 p.m. -- With defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey going to IR with a back injury, the Cowboys had an open spot on their 53-man roster.

That spot was filled on Saturday with WR Ryan Flournoy signing to the active roster from the practice squad.

Flournoy has garnered heaping praise from Brian Schottenheimer and special teams coordinator Nick Sorensen for his ability to play gunner on special teams. He also had a strong camp in Oxnard at wide receiver, and could see a few snaps there too.

-------------

12:05 p.m. -- Ahead of their home opener against the Giants, the Cowboys elevated two practice squad cornerbacks in Zion Childress and Robert Rochell to the game day roster.

Reddy Steward will likely get the start at the slot corner position with DaRon Bland out with a foot injury. Childress coming up gives the Cowboys depth at the position, and Brian Schottenheimer said on Friday that they could look for help from their safeties there too if need be, which would likely see Juanyeh Thomas slide over.

As Trevon Diggs continues to ramp up from his injury recovery, it's not a guarantee at all that he'll be able to handle a full workload on the outside. So, Rochell gives Dallas another option opposite Kaiir Elam should Diggs need a breather.

-------------

Sept. 12

8:45 a.m. -- With DaRon Bland not in the lineup for Sunday's home opener against the Giants, Brian Schottenheimer said on 105.3 The Fan that the team could look for help at the safety position to step up and play in the nickel spot. In doing so, he was complimentary of defensive cooridnator Matt Eberflus' ability to change things on a dime.

"One of the things I loved about [Eberflus] when I was going through the interview process, talking to people about him, is his ability to adjust and move things," Schottenheimer said on 105.3 The Fan. "I think we saw that with Matt and his staff in the second half against Philadelphia."

The two safeties on the active roster not named Malik Hooker and Donovan Wilson are Juanyeh Thomas and Markquese Bell. Thomas took some reps at nickel during OTAs and training camp in Oxnard, but did not practice on Thursday due to a personal, non-injury related reason.

Undrafted free agent Alijah Clark is currently on the practice squad, so he could get elevated along with fellow UDFA Zion Childress to get a chance against New York. Second-year nickel corner Reddy Steward is also an option for the Cowboys on the active roster, and will likely get the starting nod.

-------------

Sept. 11

4:00 p.m. -- For the most part, Dallas' Thursday injury report remained the same aside from one new addition: Safety Juanyeh Thomas, who did not participate due to personal reasons that were non-injury related.

CB DaRon Bland (foot) once again did not practice as he's expected to be sideline for a few weeks, and S Malik Hooker (foot) was limited for the second day in a row.

On the Giants side, a majority of their players listed as DNP on Wednesday participated in practice in a limited capacity on Thursday, including starting OL Andrew Thomas (foot) and WRs Wan'Dale Robinson (ankle) and Darius Slayton (groin). Star WR Malik Nabers (back) went from a limited participant Wednesday to a full participant Thursday.

-------------

Sept. 10

4:00 p.m. -- Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland was not seen on the field during the media's viewing period of practice on Wednesday, and was listed as DNP with a foot injury on the first injury report of the week.

Last season, Bland suffered a stress fracture in his foot during training camp that sidelined him until Week 12 against the Washington Commanders. It's unclear if this injury occurred on the same foot.

Safety Malik Hooker, who was also is dealing with a foot injury, was listed as limited in Wednesday's practice. For the Giants, starting OL Andrew Thomas (foot), and star DT Dexter Lawrence (NFR-personal) did not practice. Second-year WR Malik Nabers (back) was limited.

Sept. 9

10:30 a.m. -- Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs played on a pitch count against the Eagles last Thursday, logging 26 snaps out of 62 total defensive plays. With the Giants coming up on Sunday, owner/GM Jerry Jones was asked if he believed Diggs would be back to a full-time player in Week 2.

"Well I think he's ready, yes..." Jones said with a slight chuckle. "Yes. He's ready to play."

Diggs has spent the last few months recovering from his second significant knee injury in as many seasons. His return to the field last week was ahead of even his own schedule, which he estimated to come between Week 2 and Week 4. Now, the ramp up process continues.

-------------

Sept. 4

6:50 p.m. -- It's nearly time for the Dallas Cowboys to kick off their 2025 regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles, but that also means it's time for several to be listed as inactive for the game.

Mazi Smith headlines the group of Week 1 inactives after the Cowboys acquired defensive tackle Kenny Clark via the trade of Micah Parsons, but the absence of Perrion Winfrey due to injury looms large here as well.

Joining Smith is rookie running back Jaydon Blue, along with fellow rookies Shemar James and Ajani Cornelius, as well as Hakeem Adeniji and Trevor Keegan.

Cornelius and Adeniji are both seated as Tyler Guyton returns to the field following a knee injury suffered in training camp, making Nate Thomas the swing tackle against the Eagles — Trevon Diggs also returning as well.

-------------

4:30 p.m. -- Ryan Flournoy earned his way onto the active 53-man roster before being waived to make room for additional transactions, later re-signing with the Cowboys via their practice squad.

In preparation for the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, Flournoy has been elevated from the practice squad, along with linebacker Buddy Johnson.

This marks, obviously, the first of three allowed elevations for both players.

Bringing up Flournoy ensures the Cowboys have at least five receivers on their gameday roster for Thursday Night Football.

-------------

Sept. 3

1:00 p.m. -- Trevon Diggs is back after a long journey of rehab from a season-ending knee injury in 2024.

The All-Pro cornerback carries no game designation heading into the matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles to open the 2025 season, following a week of full participation in each practice and no setbacks.

Joining him in being medically cleared to go is former first-round pick and starting left tackle Tyler Guyton, who suffered a bone fracture in his knee during training camp in Oxnard.

Guyton and Diggs are both expected to take the field at Lincoln Financial Field for Thursday Night Football.

-------------

Sept. 2

3:00 p.m. -- Tuesday's injury report in the lead up to Thursday's season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles was the same as Monday's.

Tyler Guyton, Trevon Diggs and Brevyn Spann-Ford were all full participants for the second straight day, a good sign of their availability to be able to play later this week. The question is whether or not Brian Schottenheimer and his staff decide to play them, or if they feel they need some more time after not being on the field. In terms of interchangeability, Schottenheimer said earlier Tuesday it's easier do at cornerback than it is offensive line.

Yesterday, Diggs told reporters that he felt there was a "75-80" percent chance he'd be able to play Thursday, and Guyton has relayed similar confidence as both recover from knee injuries.

-------------

2:30 p.m. -- When the Cowboys signed DaRon Bland to his four-year extension on Sunday, attention immediately turned to what many think will be the next young Cowboys star that'll earn a pay day: Tyler Smith.

Smith is the least bit concerned about his contract at the moment, and instead has his full attention on Thursday's season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

"Everything will happen in due time," Smith said. "The most important thing is focusing on Thursday."

Sept. 1

4:37 p.m. - There was good news received by way of the Cowboys' injury report and Trevon Diggs on Monday.

The All-Pro cornerback continues to claw his way back to the field after a season-ending knee injury in 2024, having been removed from the team's PUP list ahead of roster cutdowns and, as such, is eligible to return as early as the Week 1 matchup against the Eagles in Philly.

He's certainly trending in that direction too, considering he was a full participant in team drills and practice on Monday, only three days ahead of kickoff at Lincoln Financial Field.

Diggs put his own odds of playing against the Eagles at "75-80 percent", and that is substantial, but if he's held out, look for newly-extended cornerback DaRon Bland to tandem with Kaiir Elam and a nickel corner that is TBD, for now, during Thursday Night Football.

-------------

4:35 p.m. - It was an emotional rollercoaster for Perrion Winfrey during roster cuts, but it had a storybook ending for the veteran defensive tackle, going on to make the active 53-man roster in Dallas.

His journey is not without another pothole in the road however, it seems, having left practice on Sunday with a back issue that's been described as tightness.

Winfrey also did not take the field in Monday's practice as he continues to rehab the issue only two days prior to the Cowboys traveling to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in the season opener.

If Winfrey is unable to play in Week 1, it would make the decision to trade for three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark very fortuitous for the Cowboys.

-------------

4:32 p.m. - When Tyler Guyton went down with a knee injury back in training camp, it looked as if the second-year left tackle could miss the entire season with what the team doctors initially thought was a torn ACL.

Instead, it was bone fracture and Guyton is now on track to play the season opener, as he practiced in full at left tackle on Monday, which was the "Thursday" practice in a normal week, three days before kickoff.

If Guyton doesn't play, Nate Thomas was likely start and make his NFL debut.

Also returning to full practice was tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford, having missed the last several weeks of practice and the preseason with an ankle injury.

August 31

1:32 p.m. - Still just a few days removed from a trade that sent him from Green Bay to Dallas, Kenny Clark is trying to get settled in. Part of that process is figuring out the right jersey number.

On Sunday, Clark was on the field with his teammates for the first time, and wearing a new number from Friday when he was more of a bystander.

Clark has switched to No. 95, after initially agreeing to wear 96.

With the Packers, Clark spent his nine-year career in Green Bay and wore No. 97.

-------------

August 30

10:30 a.m. -- After clearing waivers, the Cowboys have brought back wide receiver Ryan Flournoy to the practice squad.

Flournoy, who originally made the 53-man roster as the fifth wide receiver, is now on the practice squad, where he can be elevated up to three times to the gameday roster before needing to be added to the active roster. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer has been highly complimentary of Flournoy's ability on special teams, especially as a gunner.

The corresponding move to keep the numbers at 17 on the practice squad was the team releasing offensive lineman Saahdiq Charles.

-------------

August 29

3:58 p.m. - Before ever playing in an NFL game, Zion Childress is already getting a lesson in the business side of things.

On Tuesday, the rookie cornerback was on the 53-man roster when the Cowboys initially trimmed it down from 91. But on Wednesday, he was released and subject to waivers. But Childress cleared waivers and has now re-joined the Cowboys on the practice squad.

The undrafted rookie from Kentucky had an impressive training camp and at one point found himself in the mix to compete for the starting spot at slot cornerback.

Childress still has a chance to play in the games as all practice squad players can be elevated to the game-day roster three times.

To make room on the practice squad, the Cowboys cut Kemon Hall, a cornerback that played in six games for the team last year.

-------------

3:11 p.m. - As soon as head coach Brian Schottenheimer heard the news on the Micah Parsons trade, he immediately got on the phone. The coach said he thought it was necessary to communicate directly with some of the key players on the team to explain the reasoning and the focus moving forward.

One of those players who got the call was cornerback Trevon Diggs, who seems to be Parsons' closest friend on the team. Diggs and Parsons have more than just the catchy "7-11" connection, but even did a joint interview at training camp. Last week, Diggs commented on Parsons after the preseason game, serving as a spokesman for Parsons, who is now a former teammate.

Schottenheimer said he didn't want to get into specifics of his conversation with Diggs or any other player.

"I wanted them to hear my voice," he said, "You never know how guys are going to take news like that."

-------------

August 28

5:20 p.m. -- Aside from the ground-breaking Micah Parsons trade on Thursday evening, the Cowboys also made another roster move, claiming offensive lineman Trevor Keegan off waivers.

The corresponding move was to release WR Ryan Flournoy, who was the fifth wide receiver on the roster and got heavy praise from Brian Schottenheimer for his abilities on special teams as a gunner.

With Kenny Clark also being acquired in the trade with Green Bay, the Cowboys will need to make another roster move in order to get back down to a 53-man roster.

-------------

August 27

4:00 p.m. -- The Cowboys continued a long day of roster moves on Wednesday, as the 24-hour threshold passed for players on the 53-man roster to move to injured reserve while being able to return after four games instead of missing the season.

Rookie running back Phil Mafah and cornerback Caelen Carson were the two players that Dallas placed on IR Wednesday afternoon, opening up two spots for the active roster.

Those spots were filled by two veterans who were released, not waived, on Tuesday in offensive lineman Hakeem Adeniji and safety C.J. Goodwin.

As things stand right now, the Cowboys 53-man roster is set for Week 1 against Philadelphia and the team still has one remaining practice squad spot available.
