What would you rather have at tackle, a great run blocker and not so great pass blocker? Or a great pass blocker and below average run blocker? Has shoring up this position become a need? – Abraham Cantu/Mission, TX

Mickey: Not sure that is a viable either-or-question. I want both. Especially if I am drafting one in the first three rounds. Better be a complete offensive lineman. Now then, if that offensive tackle is a developmental guy, surely you can give a guy help pass blocking if need be but it's hard to give an offensive tackle help run blocking. You're sort on your own there, because double teams will definitely get you in trouble elsewhere. And I'm guessing this question arises after the Detroit game when the Cowboys struggled in pass protection. Just remember, Nate Thomas is a young guy, starting in just his second NFL game after spending all last year on IR. Thomas is awfully athletic and has played well up to this point. Just needs seasoning and needing to clean up some technique issues. Ability is not lacking. Let's not overreact on this one.

Tommy: I agree with Mickey that you'd want both, but at the same time some players are wired in the way that you're lining it up to where they're better at one or the other. I'll always want a better pass blocker, especially in today's NFL and with this Cowboys offense. When you throw it as much as they do, Dak Prescott needs the time to get the ball to his star players down the field and at times this year, he hasn't been able to. I think it's a lot easier to bring a great pass protector along to run block, than the inverse. And yes, with the struggles they've had on both sides of the line thus far, I think it's fair to ask the question of whether or not it's becoming a position of need following the season. I think that Dallas can get by, especially if Tyler Guyton can continue to improve like he has this year, but certainly is something worth watching.
