In your opinion, what are the biggest questions that need to be answered in the last preseason game? – Cynthia Wright, Dallas, TX
Nick: Is it possible the biggest question centers around a scenario you hope never even matters? The Cowboys would prefer the backup quarterback never even get on the field, except for late-game situations with a big lead. But with this team, just getting wins is going to be hard enough, especially blowout wins. So it's safe to say the Cowboys are hoping Dak Prescott takes just about every snap possible.
By saying that, you still need to know who the backup quarterback is and after two games, Joe Milton just doesn't seem ready to be that guy, especially considering Dak's injury history lately.
The interesting part is Will Grier because yes, the cowboys and Brian Schottenheimer probably feel like they have a good idea what he can do, but it's not like he's played a lot of snaps either. So if Milton doesn't give you any more confidence after this game, then I'm not sure how they can just automatically lean on Grier as the backup. So that means maybe someone else is in the works to be added to this team as the No. 2. One way or another there's a lot of questions to answer at the quarterback position.
Patrik: Yes. I mean, really, can't my answer simply be "yes", at this point? Let's see: I have no clue, ahead of the preseason finale against the Falcons, who the immediate backup at quarterback is — can Joe Milton do a 180-degree turn ... or even a 90-degree one?
I am also still wondering what the cornerback depth chart will look like, especially who'll get the start at nickel corner, and defensive tackle prowess behind Osa Odighizuwa and Solomon Thomas is eluding me. And when you look at the running back equation, having not seen Jaydon Blue on the field doesn't deter me from keeping him on my 53-man roster, but it caused the re-insertion of Malik Davis which, now that I think about it, makes me wonder what that might mean for someone like Miles Sanders or Phil Mafah, despite the latter showing me plenty this preseason.
I could go on, but you get the point. My answer to your question, again, is simply "yes".
