Mailbag: Can Claiborne Maintain The Fiery Attitude?

Bryan: I don't believe so.  Both Callahan and Pollack are committed to trying to get as many guys ready to play in case there is an emergency during a game. These practices are the best opportunity to work at different spots because you are not getting ready for that game. There is no pressure. If Martin makes a mistake like he did on Sunday with a fumbled snap, then there is no harm. It's like playing Doug Free at guard in camp last season, now you know he could do it in a pinch.

David: We heard so much about Martin's ability to play all five positions on the line, but I was genuinely surprised to see him try center. It makes me wonder if they'll give him a chance at tackle or leave him on the inside. As far as front runners go, nothing is going to be decided in the first few practices, and Ronald Leary is going to get every opportunity to have his say.

Watching the clips you guys posted the other day where Morris Claiborne and Terrance Williams were going after each other pretty good. Seems Mo is playing with some fire. Any chance that carries over to the regular season? I'd like to see him play like that against, say, Riley Cooper.

Bryan:I have said before that I believe that Claiborne is playing with a chip on his shoulder and I see nothing wrong with that. The problem I do have is with all this extra jawing that he was doing with Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams after every snap that he took, I thought was totally unnecessary. It took away from the type of day he was having coverage-wise and focused it on something totally different. He needs to [embedded_ad] focused on his technique and not running his mouth because in the long run that is really truly all that matters.

David: I agree with Bryan that priority No. 1 is how well Claiborne is actually playing. That said, I love to see him play with some attitude and swagger. There were times last season, particularly given his struggles, where it seemed like Claiborne didn't have the right mentality to play cornerback. It's a position that demands a certain kind of confidence and bravado. It's good to see Claiborne behave like belongs on an island with a top receiver.

With all of the extra reps Zack Martin has been getting at second team center, is it possible Mackenzy Bernadeau is currently the front runner for the starting left guard spot, since he is usually the "swing guard/center guy?"
