Is the Super Bowl hangover a thing? Yes, Dallas opens at the NFL champions, but the Eagles played four more games than the Cowboys last season. Plus, it seemed like several Cowboys were injured last year as well, so players like Dak Prescott have spent even less time getting beaten on by another team. And you can also throw in there's no film on Brian Schottenheimer and Matt Eberflus' schemes. Given all that, do you think this gives Dallas a better chance in the season opener? – Marcus Whitt/Mullens, WV
Patrik: Yes, there is a such thing as a Super Bowl hangover but, no, it is not guaranteed to be a thing every season, and so I wouldn't go prematurely assigning it to the Eagles just yet. Overall, I will say this is a Cowboys' team that is better than it was in 2024, on paper, even with the step back taken due to the trade of Micah Parsons, and the improved roster — that also includes George Pickens — should make things more difficult than many might think heading into Philadelphia. I am greatly appreciative of the element of surprise in the NFL, because it can often pay off like gangbusters, so the Cowboys better make use of it while they can regarding the offensive playbook. I could agree that too many have outright written the Cowboys off against the Eagles in Week 1, but it's also true that I believe the Eagles are going to try to embarrass them; so let's see who is more ready to land haymakers on Thursday, seeing as both are capable.
Tommy: I think everything you mentioned can play a part in the game. Super Bowl hangover or not though, Philadelphia is absolutely loaded from a roster standpoint. They have a strong case in being the best team in league in the trenches on both sides of the ball, have talented skill players and a more than capable quarterback. Plus, they play the Cowboys twice every year and are familiar with most of Dallas' players and what they can do. So new scheme or not, the Eagles have an idea of what they're going to see on Thursday and can plan accordingly.
