Are you satisfied with the backup quarterbacks, Joe Milton and Will Grier? Have these two QBs shown enough that causes you to believe they are as good as or better than Cooper Rush? Right now, I don't think so, but you may have a different opinion. Is the solution to the backup QB position already in place?– Bobby Kirkpatrick/Hot Springs, AR**
Nick: Yes, I do think the backup is on the roster. I think Joe Milton was traded to be that guy right now. I remember Brian Schottenheimer talking about changing up the style of play when you have to play the backup and how challenging that can be. I do think Milton is closer to Dak's skill set than Cooper Rush or even Will Grier.
We will see how it plays out but I think Milton is here and probably Grier as well but a lot of that will be determined in how they play in the preseason games.
Tommy: Personally, I'm a believer in bringing in at least one backup quarterback with a lot of NFL game experience so that they can, one, mentor a younger quarterback or two, know what they're being tasked with if they ever need to be thrust into a game. The Cowboys had that with Cooper Rush on the roster, but now they don't with Milton and Grier not being very seasoned in terms of regular season game experience. Does that mean the Cowboys can't win with either of them if need be? Not necessarily, but there's a lot of things we don't know about either one of them. Sure, Joe Milton played very well in the season finale last year for New England, and Grier has shown flashes in the preseason, but that's a lot of potential to bank on from the backup position especially considering Dak Prescott's recent injury history. It'll be a big test for Brian Schottenheimer and QB coach Steve Shimko's development tactics should either one of them need to be put into action.
