I was disappointed that, despite only being down by six points, the Cowboys basically waved the white flag at halftime of the Giants game by taking out players like Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Doesn't that seem contrary to the *"compete every day" culture change head coach Brian Schottenheimer has been promoting? *–Robert Garcia*/Dallas, TX*
Mickey: You know, sort of agree with you on that. Thought there still would be a chance to win the game and at least finish at .500 with an 8-8-1 record even though trailing 16-10 at halftime thanks to a continued inability to score touchdowns that close to the goal line. This time, leading 10-9, agreed with going for a touchdown on fourth-and-two at the three, but is disturbing when they had first-and-10 at the 11, and end up turning the ball over on downs. Got to score touchdowns. And reason why? Within 2minutes, 29 seconds the Giants drove 96 yards for a touchdown, although on a fortuitous play, Jaxson Dart on third-and-16 from the Cowboys 29 escaping heavy pressure to sidearm that pass, nearly underhanded, for the 29-yard TD to wide receiver Gunner Olszewski for his fourth catch of the half, two times his 16-game total of two if you can even comprehend that. Never am a fan of waving the white flag, but do understand at that point making sure your main offensive guys remain healthy going into the offseason.
Tommy: I see where you're coming from. I can understand how the optics of that can be weird. However, if you're going to compete every day, that goes beyond the present day, right? It extends into the future too. It'll be very difficult for the Cowboys to compete every day, and especially on Sundays, if disaster struck with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. I was always of the opinion that Prescott shouldn't have played in the final three games of the season to ensure he could go into the offseason fully healthy and try to achieve the Cowboys' team goals in 2026 with a hopefully better roster. That, to me, is what is important, so I'm completely fine with the decision to take Prescott out and other starters when they did.
