Mailbag--Any-free-agents-to-kick-the-tires-on-hero

Now that the dust has settled with the completion of the draft, are there any available free agents you would be inclined to kick the tires on? – Pat Basilio/Mililani, HI

Nick Harris: The free agent market is a little bleak at the moment, but there are still some defensive tackle bodies that could compete for a spot at training camp. Bryan Mone has had the early growth in his career stunted by injury, but still has some intriguing upside. Hassan Ridgeway also still remains on the market. With Zay Jones visiting this week, the Cowboys may also be in the market for a receiver. If Jones doesn't work out, Mecole Hardman or Hunter Renfrow could bring some playmaking ability to the offense next season. Depth offensive linemen could always provide some value as well, and Halapoulivaati Vaitai could make sense as an interior option.

Patrik: As a matter of fact, there are. First and foremost, you can sign me up for getting Stephon Gilmore back in a Cowboys' uniform for 2024. From there, let's continue to look at the defensive tackle position, because I feel there are still some top-shelf options who would do damage for Mike Zimmer and Mike McCarthy. One such name is Calais Campbell aka "The Timeless Wonder". Campbell continues to play at a high level despite being 37 years old and his production and ability to mentor would be priceless right now. I'd also keep an eye on someone like Linval Joseph, another defensive tackle with a strong resume, but who also has a direct line to Zimmer from their days together in Minnesota. If you bring me at least two of the three names I just mentioned, I'd be a very, very happy man.
