We heard a lot of talk leading up to the draft that three of the Cowboys' biggest needs were at running back, wide receiver and defensive tackle. Were you surprised that these were addressed so late in the draft, and in the case of receiver, not at all? How big a concern is this going to be? – Adrian Phillips/Houston, TX

Tommy: The biggest concern in my mind for the Cowboys is at wide receiver. Their draft strategy this year tells me they likely didn't hold the class in as high regard as others and stuck to their draft board and picked the best player available. That's a strategy that'll make your team better without question, but you can't fill all the holes on your roster through the draft. Wide receiver is the most glaring issue in my opinion at the moment, so I think the Cowboys need to address it with one of either a "substantive" trade or a free agency addition to add a veteran target to pair with CeeDee Lamb. If that happens, I think it becomes less of a concern and you're looking at a talented roster.

Nick: When you have big needs at a lot of positions, it's impossible to fix it all. After the first two rounds, nothing is really a guarantee to fix the problems here in 2025. And as we've seen lately, even adding first-round talent doesn't always do the trick.

I'm actually glad the Cowboys did what they did with this draft. Should they really reach for a receiver they have a second-round grade on or take the guard in the first round? They stuck to the board, just like they did in the second round and took the pass-rusher. One thing I think fans always forget is that the Cowboys are drafting for needs, not just this year, but next year, too.

So the cornerback position and the defensive end spot are two that might look completely different next year. Those are things that have to be addressed as well. Sure, I would've liked to see a running back or wide receiver earlier - but only if they fit into the plan. As for wide receiver, they'll add someone here in the next week or so to add some depth, in my opinion.
