Mailbag: Enough CB Depth? Roles At Receiver?

Do you see the Cowboys keeping all 6 WRs on the active game-day 46? I would assume Cole Beasley and Michael Gallup are active, along with Tavon Austin and Deonte Thompson for special teams. If they only kept 5 active that would leave Allen Hurns and Terrance Williams as potential inactive candidates. Seems like an odd situation for veteran players. - DREW R

Bryan:I think there is a good chance that they keep all six active for the reasons you gave about special teams. Once we get further along in the season that could adjust once they figure things out with the rotation and needs at other positions.

Rob:My guess is all six will be active. Hurns has worked with the first team often when healthy and Williams should get some snaps with his experience. It'll be interesting to see how it flows, though, because we haven't seen anything close to a final rotation established yet.

Cornerbacks tend to get dinged up over the course of a season. With only 4 true corners on the 53, do you think the Cowboys would try to use Tyree Robinson (he has the size that coach likes at CB) or some other safety in a pinch for an injured corner? Just seems they're too thin at CB to get through a full season. - MIKE BALL

Bryan: Xavier Woods played nickel corner for them last season. If it really came down to having to use a guy in that spot he'd be my choice.

Rob:Chido Awuzie's back was apparently bothering him a little Wednesday, and though it doesn't sound serious, it does remind you that they only kept four on the 53. Woods played some there last year, as Bryan mentioned. If they did get thin there, they do have two corners on the practice squad: Donovan Olumba, who was in contention for a roster spot, and Treston Decoud, who was recently cut by Houston.
