We currently have three young linebackers, DeMarvion Overshown, Marist Liufau and Shemar James, who have already shown great promise. So why is there so much talk about weakness at the position, and that the need to shore it up should be a priority? – Fred London/Morristown, TN
Patrik: There is absolutely promise at linebacker, but it's also true there needs to be another addition there and, in my opinion, a splash in free agency or the NFL Draft. DeMarvion Overshown has Pro Bowl ability, but needs to remain available. Marist Liufau flew out of the gate as a rookie but was held back in Year 2 and, because of the latter, his development was slowed going into Year 3.
Shemar James is coming off of a promising rookie season, but he also had some organic growing pains that you'd expect to see. In looking at what I'm saying here: there are three young, promising linebackers in Dallas but each has a huge question mark tied to him and, for that reason, more firepower is needed in that room.
