Christian Parker has developed three Pro Bowlers/All Pros in Cooper DeJean, Quinyon Mitchell and Patrick Surtain. I don't want to dismiss that, but the Cowboys corners don't have the draft pedigree those guys have. Coaching is important, but don't you think talent makes or breaks a team? I am on board with the hire, but doesn't he need talent? – Robin Fulce/*Panhandle*, TX
Tommy: Well, every coach needs talent one way or another. So yes, he does need talent. The better your roster is from a personnel standpoint, the better opportunity your coach has to connect all the pieces of the puzzle together and create a strong unit. Right now, I think it's safe to say the Cowboys are a ways away from that. Does that mean they have zero pieces in place? No, they're strong at defensive tackle, have a promising young defensive end in Donovan Ezeiruaku and are high on their young cornerback Shavon Revel. Even still, that isn't enough for what Christian Parker is going to need if Dallas wants to see improvement on defense. That's why this cycle's free agency period as well as the Cowboys' two first round picks are so important.
