Mailbag: Rico's Camp; O-Line Adjustments?

20170814_dal_rico_gathers_selects_jj30522.jpg

I haven't heard anything about Rico Gathers this whole training camp. Is he playing? I have read multiple reports on Dak trying to throw to the other TEs but not one pass to Rico Gathers. - BRYANT BULLOCK / NEWPORT NEWS, VA

Bryan: I am amazed you haven't heard more about Gathers because we have talked about him quite a bit. If you read my notes from the Blue & White scrimmage, he opens the story. He's still slow but making plays when ball goes in his direction.

Rob: Haven't seen Gathers get much work with Prescott. He's been running behind Geoff Swaim and Blake Jarwin and primarily getting work with Mike White and Cooper Rush. He's made some plays in the short to intermediate passing game but has told me he's got to show improvement as a blocker in this camp first and foremost.

With Paul Alexander taking over as the offensive line coach, will there be any changes in scheme or technique? How will his experience benefit the line the most? - MIKE HILL

Bryan: Alexander will put his own spin on things. We have already seen a technique switch of high/low hands when it come to pass blocking techniques. Guys are picking it up well for the most part. Hardest adjustment has been for La'el Collins getting his hands correctly in place but he has made improvements.

Rob: There have been some technique adjustments, as Bryan mentioned, but I wouldn't expect drastic changes to the way this line has functioned. Alexander has been in the league a long time and says this is the best situation he's ever been in. He's got elite players he can trust. Maybe the most important part of his job will be developing Connor Williams.
